Gender Panic Once Again Unwarranted

This sort of thing is so tiresome: once again the culture warriors are freaking out about some J. Crew catalogue depicting a boy whose favourite colour is pink and who likes nail polish. Of course nail care and the colour pink are both very culturally conditioned elements of gender identity. Up until the 1920s(!) pink was the colour for baby boys and blue was the colour for girls. QI explains:

The idea that we need to fix all gender conventions per the rules of 1950s Americana is, to anyone who has studied history, patently absurd. Anyone who thinks that gender is about colours and fashion in the first place is being silly.
